2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships presented by Mercedes-Benz

Leogang – Salzburgerland

Statement from the UCI President David Lappartient

For the second time, after 2012, the mountain bike community will gather in Leogang in Austria for the leading annual event for specialists of cross-country Olympic (XCO) and downhill (DHI) racing.

Leogang-Salzburgerland is world-famous for mountain biking, having also hosted UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events since 2010. However, these 2020 UCI World Championships will be particularly special.

They come in a year that has been particularly difficult due to the coronavirus pandemic that has caused a great deal of suffering worldwide and that has severely affected our sport of cycling. I am hugely grateful to the organising team at Saalfelden Leogang and the Epic Bikepark in Leogang for their flexibility, commitment and professionalism in changing the dates of our World Championships and adding the XCO races to their programme. We are very fortunate to be able to stage this magnificent event which will be greatly appreciated by athletes and fans.

From the opening day of competition on 7 October with the ever-popular and exciting XCO team relay and the second edition of the UCI E-MTB World Championships, to the awarding of the rainbow jerseys to the Elite downhill winners on 11 October, there will be plenty of action over the five days of competition.

In a sporting season that has been filled with uncertainty, we are fortunate to be able to celebrate the world’s best mountain bike athletes, and my best wishes go to everyone involved in the 2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships presented by Mercedes-Benz.
