2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships presented by Mercedes-Benz

Leogang – Salzburgerland

Statement of the organizer Marco Pointner und Kornel Grundner

Marco Pointner (CEO Saalfelden Leogang Touristik): "From the 7th to the 11th of October the world's best bikers in cross country, downhill and E-MTB will fight for the world championship medals here in Saalfelden Leogang. Due to COVID-19, the circumstances are a special challenge this year and will cause an unusual and somewhat 'different' World Championship. We want to organize a successful and above all safe event. The health of all participants and the realization of the event stand clearly in the foreground and so we worked on different concepts. Unfortunately, it has to take place without our numerous mountain bike enthusiasts, but the elite competitions will be broadcasted live on TV and the fans will be able to follow the race from home. I would especially like to thank the organizing team, all helpers, sponsors, the Ministry of Sports, the state of Salzburg, the ÖRV, and the officials, without whose commitment such an event would not be possible".

Kornel Grundner (CEO Leoganger Bergbahnen): "For a decade now, Saalfelden Leogang has been a successful venue for the Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup and furthermore in 2012 for the MTB World Championship. The "Triple World Championships" at the beginning of October gives Saalfelden Leogang once again the chance to consolidate its status as Austria's top mountain bike spot. Of course, this is a great opportunity for us, for the region Saalfelden Leogang and for the Epic Bikepark Leogang. We have invested a lot over many years, have emerged as a reliable partner of the UCI and can thus once again underline our status as a bike destination. For this year's title bouts, the downhill course will get a new, technical section. For the first time since 2012, the UCI Cross-Country races will take place again and will be held on a completely new cross-country course. The athletes participating in the second UCI E-Mountain Bike World Championships will also master this new cross-country course with slight course adjustments. At this point, I would like to thank the landowners for their great support! Despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19 we are looking forward to the future and are looking forward to the numerous World Championship competitions".
